We periodically seek individuals for our Asia Leadership Institute winter and summer teaching fellowship programs. We also have open positions available for teaching and travel opportunities year-round, in conjunction with the conference tours as well as leadership programs we organize in several countries across Asia.
WHY JOIN US
As a CAL Teaching Fellow, you will play a role in the Center for Asia Leadership’s mission in assisting and empowering individuals, organizations, and governmental bodies to play more active and meaningful leadership roles in their communities.
As a CAL Teaching Fellow, all accommodations, travel expenses, visa fees, official sightseeing programs, and meals during official working days, will be covered. They will also receive a stipend of USD 500 per month during the duration of their fellowship. Additional funds may be provided contingent on successful receiving of grants by CAL.
As a CAL teaching fellow, confirmed candidates are automatically opt-in as alumni, and will enjoy special benefits, such as a discount of 10% to current-year Asia Leadership Treks, and will receive early notification of short-term and travel opportunities.
Other unique features about the CAL Fellowship are vast opportunities for the individual to
- Practice their teaching, leadership, and consulting skills by teaching either high school, college students, or working professionals;
- Collaborate with Harvard professors and teaching fellows from Harvard on projects;
- Learn about Asia’s socio-economic issues in several cities from a grassroots perspective;
- Meaningfully engage with the local community through high impact programs;
- Build up their network in Asia;
- Experience local cultural and historical sites.
Individuals who may be interested in international education, and leadership training are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Hold an advanced university degree in a related field;
- Have at least five years of experience in management, policy, consulting, education, or a related field;
- Demonstrate evidence of teaching ability using active learning pedagogies or evidence of advanced presentation skills to large groups of people;
- Demonstrate evidence of effective and respectful interpersonal relationship building with a wide range of people from senior VIPs (ministers/executives) to youths from diverse cultures;
- Demonstrate evidence of quality research, oral communication, and writing skills;
- Demonstrate proven management record and skills in common administrative tasks;
- Exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit, leadership qualities, strong analytical skills and hands-on attitude;
- Fluent English, with proficiency in an Asian language an asset;
- Possess adaptive, problem-solving, and strategic mind-set, with attention to detail
- Knowledgeable across a range of social, economic, and political issues in the Asian region;
- Have an outgoing, good-natured personality, and proactive and entrepreneurial mindset;
- Willing to be taught and committed to personal and professional growth.
- Current students and recent graduates of Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Columbia, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Wharton, or the Tufts Fletcher School are preferred but not required;
- Experience working in education, leadership, consulting, project or event management;
- Demonstrated commitment to social responsibility.
The scope of fellowship activities includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Leading the design, development, and delivery of workshop series on themes that include, but are not limited to: leadership, public speaking, and entrepreneurship; as well as sessions or seminars on career mentorship, outdoor education, active learning pedagogies, business, politics, diplomacy, and culture – targeted to three client segments:
- working professionals
- university students
- high school students
- Participating and be willing to be trained to contribute in the development and delivery of programs that may not necessarily fall under one’s area of expertise;
- Facilitating study groups on basic skills such as:
- Applying to U.S. universities (choosing the right program, writing an SOP, building a resume),
- Professional development (dressing for success, making your elevator pitch, managing your online presence);
- Engaging in active teaching and learning methodologies including case method teaching, simulations, case-in-point teaching, discussion-based teaching, project-based teaching, and self-directed learning;
- Training and preparing other Teaching Fellows to facilitate in your own designed-programs;
- Conducting research on organizations, personalities, potential guest speakers, and leadership and social issues in Asia;
- Producing a range of products including short articles, evaluation reports, and blog posts;
- Be responsive to audience needs and country directors’ counsel in designing and customizing programs;
- Engaging with media, policy, and VIP audiences as requested;
- Be available at organized dinners, plenary sessions, and office hours;
- Completing an after-program review.
