Following the success of the Asia Leadership Conference (ALC) 2017 which was held on June 10, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Center for Asia Leadership (CAL) organized two ALCs on July 1 and July 2, 2017, respectively at Sunway University in Malaysia.
With the objective of developing future leaders who are fully equipped with essential skills to lead an ever-evolving world, the ALC 2017 attracted high school, college and university students aged between 15 and 22 years old who were interested to learn the most critical issues that they will face in the future and ways to address them.
Themed “Developing Your Personal Brand,” the ALC 2017 provided an opportunity for participants to engage with eight scholars from world-renowned universities including Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Business School, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard School of Public Health, Northwestern, Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and Imperial College London.
At the full day event, participants discovered new ways of thinking and communicating, and skills and tools required to promote creativity and innovation to tackle challenges in a changing world through workshops, plenary sessions, professional development and career mentoring sessions, and TED-style talks. These sessions were facilitated by the scholars who guided participants to explore the principles of leadership and the knowledge needed to enhance their leadership journey.
Leadership development is a lifelong process and the scholars advised the participants to be prepared to take risks in order to develop their confidence and capabilities in managing adversity in life. The participants also gained a better understanding of becoming globally minded leaders in an increasingly globalized world and the importance of enacting positive social change to create the foundations of a society that is more inclusive, just and equitable.
Due to an increasing demand for the conference, CAL will be organizing four upcoming ALCs this year on July 15, 16, 23 and 30 at Sunway University in Malaysia.
