Justin Hartley is Founder and CEO of Model Leadership whose purpose is to help leaders and elite talent realize their most ambitious goals. A coach, speaker, trainer, scholar and author, Justin typically coaches Politicians; Senior Executives; Elite Sports people, Sporting teams; and Performers.
Justin has held research fellowships at Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership with Professor Dana Born (Brigadier General, USAF, Retired) and at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center for Media, Politics and Public Policy with Professor Steve Jarding. He was a Harvard Teaching Fellow in several leadership and communication classes including The Making of a Politician; The Arts of Communication; and Authentic Leadership. He is currently part of the teaching faculty at the Center for Asia Leadership and has authored / co-authored several book chapters and journals, including with distinguished Harvard professors.
Justin’s professional experience includes more than 20 years international blue-chip multi-sector experience across three continents; co-founding Australia’s first not-for-profit for children suffering from chronic pain, Support Kids in Pain and being on the Board for more than ten years; and five years with Samaritans (Central London) supporting people who were actively suicidal. Justin spent more than three years as a full-time primary caregiver for his Mother, who suffered Alzheimer’s disease and has worked in the media as a mental health advocate and memory and mental performance expert. He is a former Guinness World Record Holder in memory, Australian Memory Champion and represented his country in both Memory and Mental Calculation World Championships. He has appeared on numerous television and radio programs, and hosted his own mini segment on prime-time Australian breakfast radio for over a year.
Justin holds several degrees from the University of Queensland, including first class honours in Economics and Finance, a MPA from Harvard and a MSc from the University of Oxford. At Harvard he was a Fulbright Scholar and a Harvard Kennedy Fellow and recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Gregory Schwartz Grant that is awarded to a maximum of only four Australian Fulbright Scholars across the United States. At Harvard Justin studied under several world renowned leadership experts including Professors Dana Born (Brigadier General, USAF, Retired), Ronald Heifetz, Barbara Kellerman, Marshall Ganz and Gary Orren. He received: the highest outright grade for a public speech in course history (over 17 years) in The Making of a Politician; the highest grade for an international debater in Harvard’s Mock Presidential Debate; and First Prize (he and his team) – in the Harvard Mock Presidential Ad Campaign. He was voted one of the most persuasive scholars in Persuasion: the Science and Art of Effective Influence and elected by his peers as Executive Vice-President of the Harvard Kennedy School Student Government and subsequently sat on the HKS Alumni Board.
