“Future of Leadership” forum to feature Harvard professors

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Countries like Malaysia, Singapore, China, and others have been unveiling their own Industry 4.0 focus. National plans and policies often highlight the digital dimension of 21st century change. But soon Malaysia will be hosting a forum to help companies upgrade an often overlooked ingredient to successful IR4.0 transformation: leadership.

“Management is necessary. But leadership remains the most impactful thing driving your company. In other words, you can easily credit or blame the quality of leadership for 80% of what you see happening in your organization. It’s the often unacknowledged rule of the ‘vital few’,” explained Center for Asia Leadership Vice President John Lim

At the end of the day, tech skills alone won’t be enough. According to the Global Leadership Forecast 2018, tech leaders have the highest leadership failure rate. Four out of ten tech leaders are failing. A recent Forbes article says this is probably because the industry doesn’t prioritize developing its leaders.

Organizations are racing to create digital ecosystems and supporting infrastructure for IR4.0, but Lim said the future success of organizations will still depend on people.
