As part of its commitment to address complex challenges affecting Asia, the Center for Asia Leadership (CAL) invited Dr. Park Jin, Executive President of Asia Future Institute to give a talk on “U.S.-China Relations and the Future of the Korean Peninsula: Challenges and Prospects” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 3, 2017.
Asia Future Institute is an independent policy think-tank designed to conduct research on the future development of Asia and to promote Korea’s role in the region. The talk was timely with the latest escalating security tension on the Korean Peninsula that has generated an unlikely new strategic Partnership between the U.S. and China to pressure North Korea to renounce its nuclear development plans.
The talk began with an introduction by Samuel Kim, President and Co-founder of CAL who was recently elected as Executive Director of Asia Future Institute. Dr. Park proceeded with his lecture that focused on implications and constraints of the U.S.-China collaboration to resolve North Korea’s nuclear plans. He also gave his insights on future scenarios of the Korean Peninsula within the changing environment in Northeast Asia.
