Online courses break down ‘science of change-making’

How does change happen and what is needed to sustain it? What forces need to be at work for change leadership to create lasting impact? Responding to the need to break down the science of change-making in the 21st century, the Center for Asia Leadership will be launching on July 22 CAL Online at

CAL Online is an online learning platform that provides courses, workshops, and seminars on both the human side of innovation as well as its more technical dimension like Design Thinking.

Leading-edge resources

According to Director of Asia Leadership Teaching Fellows & Online Learning Matthew Turner, what sets CAL Online apart is its leading-edge resources on initiating and managing change. “CAL online offers the best of Harvard thought leadership and teaching practices for everyone and wherever you are in Asia,” he said in an interview.

CAL Online includes a mix of free and paid courses and workshops by Rajan Patel, the co-inventor of the low-cost Embrace Baby Incubator which has saved 300,000 low-birth-weight babies through its innovative design; Dana Born, a retired brigadier general of the U.S. Air Force, co-director of the Center for Public Leadership, and the first woman to be appointed Dean of the Faculty at the U.S. Air Force Academy; and Steven Jarding, former lecturer at Harvard University who was voted “Teacher of the Year” by the Harvard Kennedy School student body in 2016, among others.

Once they have created an account, users will gain access to various workshops and courses on Design Thinking, ethics, Adaptive Leadership, negotiation, social leadership, and diversity, among many others.

The wave of disruption

Considering that 88% of the firms that were on the Fortune 500 list in 1955 are gone, the question is not whether or not organizations learn to move with rapid change; the question is how fast they do.
