Does the secret to priming your team for an uncertain future lie in technical skills? Or soft skills? Or both? What many executives agree on is that in an age of machine learning and virtual and augmented reality, leadership will continue to be a top skill that will impact how well companies hustle and thrive in a VUCA world that demands agility.
Interestingly, an article by Infopro Learning shows that 84% of organizations foresee a shortage of leaders in the next 5 years, while 71% of companies surveyed feel that their leaders are incapable of leading them into the future. No wonder managers are on the lookout for trainings which specifically address the need to form and lead agile teams for the digital age.
Manila will be hosting one such training, the “Adaptive Leadership: Leading an Agile Workforce for the 21st Century” program on Sept. 12-14, 2019 at Marco Polo Ortigas, Manila, Philippines. Former United Nations diplomat, Center for Asia Leadership (CAL) President and Co-founder Samuel Kim, who holds a master’s in public administration from Harvard University and former McKinsey consultant, intrapreneur, and futurist Rahul Daswani, who holds a master’s in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government will facilitate the program. The Adaptive Leadership program is based on an actual course taught at the Harvard Kennedy School, which had been voted by Harvard alumni as “the most impactful on their career.”
“The 21st century has brought a new kind of workplace filled with new opportunities, threats, and challenges, in which solutions and the right path forward are not self-evident,” said John Lim, CAL Director for International Affairs.
According to Lim, more than ever, leaders need to “manage the dynamics around complex challenges, while scaling a process for teams and organizations to learn and innovate.”
At the end of the program, participants will be left with the necessary mindset and toolkits needed to initiate change and renewal within the workplace or even community, such as being able to:
- identify the megatrends of the 21st century and its implications on leadership and the domains of personal, professional, organizational, and community life;
- use creativity, power, and authority to mobilize teams and help them develop independence;
- gain a toolkit of skills to gain insights, solve problems, and instill a disciplined collaborative ecosystem that generates shared values, progress, and goals;
- learn how to define and deal with an adaptive challenge and how to develop an action plan to address it.
Participants will enjoy a thought-provoking learning experience that is largely patterned after the Harvard pedagogical style of case study analysis and intense classroom discussions and interactions.
The 3-day program is designed to introduce working professionals in business, government, international and/or non-profit organizations, who hold mid- to senior- level decision-making roles, to the Harvard leadership framework that will allow them to engage with complex challenges in the 21st workplace.
